There were joyous scenes in Abbeylara and Mullinalaghta on Sunday night as supporters showed up in great numbers to welcome home our Minor Champions who were ferried in on Gerry Tully’s homecoming truck. At Mullinroe cross, the players were greeted by a spectacular bonfire and that was just one highlight of a night that will surely be remembered for many years to come.

It’s always a great occasion to celebrate a championship success and for the players to return to their respective schools and share their success. So following on from Sunday night’s celebrations, the players visited the national schools of Abbeylara, Aughnagarron and Mullinalaghta, where they received very warm welcomes for their exploits. The players showed their thanks to each school for their tremendous support throughout the year and took pictures with all the pupils and staff as well as bringing refreshments for the pupils and taking some time to play football with them. The team’s joint captains Aidan McElligott and Anthony O’Reilly presented each school with an O’Neill’s football.

On the Friday, Cnoc Mhuire, Granard had an official reception for the Northern Gaels players in their school to show their support and congratulate the players past and present on a fantastic win.

Abbeylara GAA club would again like to congratulate all the players and management on a wonderful achievement in wining their 3rd Minor Final and also want to wish the Juvenile team the same success in this Sunday’s final.
